The President of the Economic and Social Council, Mr. Sterică Fudulea, participated on March 18, 2025, in the Romanian Digital Day, an event organized in Brussels by Mr. Victor Negrescu, Vice-President of the European Parliament.

Now in its third edition, the event brought together representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, high-level Romanian officials and experts from the digital and technology sectors.

President Fudulea gave an introductory speech during the panel “Competitiveness of the Romanian digital sector: recommendations and debate. What makes the Romanian digital sector great?” held between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. Representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission, of the Romanian Parliament and Government and of the European business community were invited as keynote speakers in this panel.

Mr. Fudulea spoke about the overall situation of the Romanian digital sector, its strengths and weaknesses in the European context, and about the status of the public sector digital transformation and the necessary actions that this process imposes.

In the morning of the same day, President Fudulea also had a meeting with Mr. Séamus Boland, the candidate nominated by Group III (“Civil Society Organizations”) for the European Economic and Social Committee presidential term 2025-2028. The discussion focused on the war in Ukraine and its impact on the border counties of the EU member states bordering Ukraine, an impact that is reflected economically and socially particularly in these regions of the respective countries. President Fudulea proposed, and Mr. Boland agreed, to jointly draft an EESC point of view advocating for EU economic support to the counties on the border with Ukraine. President Fudulea and the President of Group III, Mr. Boland, also agreed to organize a joint event on supporting the integration of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova into the EU.

On March 19, President Fudulea met with the President of the European Economic and Social Committee, Mr. Oliver Röpke, at the EESC headquarters. The two presidents discussed ways to strengthen the long-standing relationship between the EESC and the Romanian ESC. These included the project to draft a joint point of view advocating EU economic support to the bordering counties of the EU Member States bordering Ukraine.
